We are pleased to announce the request for proposals for ANR’s 2012 competitive grants program. The RFP is posted at http://ucanr.edu/files/134928.pdf.
The program is similar to last year’s with these changes:
- The water initiative is included in this year’s call.
- Letters of intent are due 30 days from today.
- Applicants whose letters have been selected will have 6 weeks to submit a full proposal.
- Both long-term and short-term projects must include extension and research.
- Cross-initiative collaboration is strongly encouraged.

The Ornamental & Environmental Horticulture, Nurseries & Master Gardener program team and the Water Resources program team will meet on Feb. 1 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the UC Davis ARC in Meeting Rooms 1, 2 and 3.
The two program teams will meet to form project teams that are interested in applying for grants in the next round of the ANR competitive grants program, and to discuss and propose new positions in response to the upcoming ANR call for new positions, said Doug Parker, director of the California Water Resources Research Institute.

I am pleased to announce that 21 projects will be funded by ANR’s competitive grants program, for a total of $4.46 million over five years.
The purpose of this grants program, as outlined in the request for proposals (RFP), is to support projects under initiatives that focus on high priority issues that encourage collaboration, continue to strengthen the research-extension continuum, yield policy relevant outcomes, and achieve significant statewide impacts in California. We are pleased to announce the release of the Request for Proposals (RFP) for ANR’s competitive grants program.
As announced, ANR will invest in research, education and outreach projects through a competitive grants program aimed to support high priority issues, encourage collaboration among academics, support short-term high-impact projects, strengthen the research-extension continuum, and contribute policy-relevant outcomes addressing significant statewide economic, environmental and social issues in California.

By the time the statewide call for proposals for new advisor and specialist positions closed on Nov. 15, the strategic initiative leaders, associate deans of the colleges, county directors and workgroup chairs had submitted 138 position proposals. On Dec. 8, the county directors will review the proposals and provide input for Program Council’s consideration. Program Council will begin reviewing the proposals in December and will provide recommendations to ANR Vice President Dooley by March. The top priority positions selected for recruiting will be announced in April. At present, ANR expects to be able to fund approximately 20 new positions.
